Occasionally during my duties as a professional beer commentator, I meet people who say “oh, I don’t like beer.”  Now, some other beer fanatics would berate these people and ply them with horopito-infused home-brewed double imperial pumpkin ale in order to prove the person is an idiot for making such a mistaken claim. 

There were plenty of stories last week about the angry Apple fans who queued for many hours to buy the latest iPhone 4, only to find out when they got to the front of the line that the phones were, for reasons which have not been adequately explained, not actually available in this country.

July – The Very Merry Month of Pale Ale

Following a flurry of foam and a more than a whiff of hops, the Third Annual West Coast Challenge is over.  Last week, we promised that official results of the public voting would be revealed in this very post. 

This Saturday, Malthouse will host the Third Annual West Coast IPA Challenge.  According to legend, the Challenge was conceived by Luke Nicholas (Epic Brewing Company) and Steve Plowman (Hallertau Brewbar) during the 2008 World Beer Cup in San Diego, CA.  Luke was a judge, Steve was there just ‘hanging around.’
